A Guide to Pitched Roof Repairs

Every roof, no matter what it is made from and how well it is installed, will require repairs sooner or later. The harsh UK climate beats down upon your roof day in, day out, and this means repairs are often called for, and if your roof is pitched, as most are, here are a few important aspects of roof maintenance to bear in mind.

  1. Roof Tiles – Gale force winds can easily cause roof tiles to lift from their fixings, and if missing or broken roof tiles are not replaced right away, it could cause serious internal damage to both the roof structure and the upstairs ceilings. With affordable roof repair in Glasgow, installing a few roof tiles won’t cost very much, and regular inspections will quickly reveal any issues with your roof tiles.
  2. Chimney – The chimney is often above the roof line, which leaves it exposed to storm damage, plus driving wind and rain can cause the mortar pointing to erode. A close inspection would reveal any chimney issues, which should be addressed sooner rather than later.
  3. Guttering – The guttering provides an essential escape route for excess rainwater, and it should be cleaned out at regular intervals. Blocked guttering will result in water running down the exterior walls and that can cause some serious damage.
  4. Soffit & Fascia – Usually made from timber, the soffit and fascia need to be in good condition, as they protect the roof line and the underside. If you want to eliminate maintenance, have some PVC replacements fitted, and with a choice of colours, you can brighten up your roof.

It is quite difficult to inspect a pitched roof, so it might be a good idea to ask your local roofing company to carry out an annual inspection, which would reveal any minor issues, and they can be promptly dealt with.
